rainy day

Inspired by today's weather, what would be on your "rainy day" playlist, if you were to make one?

Rainy days call for mellow…

1. Ray Lamontagne – I might just start off listening to the whole Til the Sun Turns Black album…

2. After that, I’d need my Counting Crows mellow mix, which consists of:
a. Round Here
b. Rain King (appropriate, I think)
c. Chelsea
d. Le Ballet d’or
e. Carriage
f. Blues Run the Game
g. Goodnight Elisabeth
h. Another Horsedreamer’s Blues
i. Anna Begins
j. Raining in Baltimore (duh)
k. Murder of One
l. Miami
m. Washington Square
n. A Long December

Then, onto the Rainy Day Mix:

3. Nickel Creek – Can’t Complain
4. Whiskeytown – Avenues
5. Jason Mraz – After an Afternoon
6. Pearl Jam – Nothingman
7. Colin Hay – I Just Don’t Think I’ll Ever Get Over You
8. Bosc – Evolve
9. Decemberists – California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade
10. Glen Hansard – Lies
11. Ryan Adams – When the Stars Go Blue
12. Bright Eyes – Hot Knives
13. Damien Rice – Dogs
14. Landon Pigg – Coffee Shop
15. Hayden – Dynamite Walls
16. Rufus Wainwright – April Fools
17. Cat Power – The Greatest
18. Fiona Apple – Parting Gift
19. Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into the Dark
20. John Mayer – Stop This Train
21. Nick Drake – Pink Moon
22. Morrissey – The More You Ignore Me
23. Iron and Wine – Love and Some Verses
24. Pete Yorn – The Man
25. Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps

This looks so good, I might just make myself the mix right now :)

Ok, finally finished. Hard to get time to do this during the week.
Top contributors to my rainy day playlist would be Counting Crows, Ryan Adams, Beulah, and Ray Lamontagne, but first, before the playlist, I would start with a mix of August and Everything After, minus Mr. Jones and Murder of One, not in track order, but arranged like this:
Rain King, Raining in Baltimore, Round Here, Perfect Blue Buildings, Omaha, Ghost Train, Time and Time Again, Anna Begins, Sullivan Street, Raining in Baltimore

I think this would serve as a very nice "fluffer" for the rainy day experience in the playlist to follow...

Then I would drop the A&EA song in a large playlist with the following songs, put it on shuffle, and sit out on the porch and listen to the rain...

Listed by artist to make it easier, but remember, it would be on shuffle...
Counting Crows – Colorblind, Mercury, Carriage, Goodnight Elisabeth, Black and Blue, Another Horsedreamer’s Blues, Holiday In Spain, Chelsea
Ryan Adams – Wonderwall, When the Stars Go Blue, Goodnight Hollywood Boulevard, Oh My Sweet Carolina, Come Pick Me Up, Bartering Lines, Damn Sam (I Love A Woman That Rains), Why Do They Leave?, In My Time of Need, Now That You’re Gone, Mockingbirdsing, Blossom, Carolina Rain, Elizabeth, You Were Born to Play That Part, The Shadowlands, Please Do Not Let Me Go, La Cienga Just Smiled
Beulah – Emma Blowgun’s Last Stand, Calm Go the Wild Seas, Ballad of the Lonely Argonaut, Night is the Day Turned Inside Out, A Man Like Me, You’re Only King Once, Me And Jesus Don’t Talk Anymore, Don’t Forget to Breathe, Wipe Those Prints and Run
Ray Lamontagne – Be Here Now, Can I Stay, Gone Away From Me, Within You, Hold You In My Arms, Trouble, Forever My Friend, Till the Sun Turns Black

Teitur – To Meet You, Amanda’s Dream
Guster – Rainy Day, So Long, Two Points For Honesty
Shiny Toy Guns – Rainy Monday
Elliott Smith – Everything Means Nothing To Me, Everything Reminds Me of Her, I Better Be Quiet Now, Pitseleh
Dashboard Confessional – The Brilliant Dance, Ender Will Save Us All
The Wallflowers – Invisible City

Also, I'm going to make a proxy submission for my dad, who emailed me his answer.

Direct quote:
"rainy days---has to be Country Crows..or whoever they are. Dad"

Now, in Dad's defense, even though this story comes up all the time, I can't really expect him to remember the name of the band.

So, for those who don't know, as the story goes, my dad, John Diaz, and myself drove to New Jersey to go to Six Flags. I know, sounds crazy. I had an invitational soccer tournament earlier that year in NJ and went to Six Flags and loved it. The roller coasters were great, but I think the best part was the novelty of it. Since it was so far away, most people hadn't been to Six Flags, so therefore, I thought I was awesome because I had. I know... whatever.

So, I had gone back a couple other times with a friend from church and then took this trip with John and my dad. Pretty awesome that he was willing to do that, especially since he doesn't really ride roller coasters.

Anyways... as we were riding up to NJ in the awesome red, quad 4 Olds and I had only brought two CDs. August and Everything After and Recovering the Satellites. Both by Counting Crows. And both my dad and John kept on saying, and continue bringing it up often to this day, is that every song seemed to be about rain or some sort of precipitation. So, clearly, that is what my dad remembered and wanted to once again make a joke about it. So that is his input, which seems to be consistent with the sentiments expressed so far.
